What You Need During The First Weeks With Your Baby

What you need during the first weeks with your baby

During pregnancy, you may have wondered what your new life will be like when you come home with your newborn. The truth is that you need a lot of patience to get used to your new life. The first few weeks with your newborn are anything but easy.

No matter how prepared you feel and no matter how much you want to come home with your little one, there are  some things you should keep in mind that can help you through the first few weeks.

You may get off to a good start with a quick recovery and much more energy than you felt during the last weeks of your pregnancy. And you will probably not be able to stop smiling when you look at your baby, even if the house is upside down.

You will be more interested in taking photos than in dusting. It’s normal. You will probably be completely engrossed in your baby, just as if you were in love.

But as the days go by, it can start to feel like things are falling apart. That’s when it’s good if you sit down and look at things. You will realize that your whole life revolves around breastfeeding, belching, diaper changes, crying and insufficient sleep.

You may also realize that your mood is changing, and that you need to cry from time to time.

It’s not easy – you need help

It does not matter how many children you had before or if it is your firstborn. Whether you have planned and prepared before, your life will change and the first weeks are not easy. The first weeks are a roller coaster both physically and mentally.

The first thing you need to do during the first few weeks at home is gather your best friends and family around you. Those who are able to help without asking for anything in return or just make you smile because you need it.

It can be your mother, your mother-in-law, your best friend, your father-in-law, a brother or sister, an aunt or aunt… anyone you know will help you unconditionally.

But as well as having these people around, it is important to follow some advice, which can make a big difference during the first few weeks with a newborn at home.

Go out

Even if you do not feel it, do it. If you can go out on your own for a while, it’s better. Fresh air and the simple act of walking can do wonders for your state of mind. A half-hour walk can make a big difference for you.

You will spend hours with your baby, so leave it with your partner or someone you trust and go out. Breathe deeply, let nature recharge your batteries and then go home to your baby with a smile on your face.
