Teach your baby to sit with effective and fun exercises

Teach your baby to sit and ignore all the myths that it affects the spine. Gently encourage your baby, just as you encourage him to lift his head and turn in the crib.

As long as you do not force and engage in proper exercises, your baby will not risk any danger while you engage in this new stage of motor development.

Exercises to teach your baby to sit

Children develop in several stages, and a very important one is learning to sit without support or help.

When working against it , pediatricians recommend a series of exercises and games for the baby to strengthen the hips and shoulders. It helps it keep its balance in a sitting position.

At six months, the baby should be able to lift his back when lying on his stomach, turn his head and roll around. These are signs that it is time to start teaching it to sit.

You do not have to be afraid. Teach your baby to sit and start using the following exercises.

Let it sit on your lap

Whenever you can , put the baby in your lap with your back resting against you. Hold the baby’s hands so that it feels safe and sing a song to make the situation more comfortable.

It is important that the child sits correctly; ensure that it is as upright as possible.

2. Make it a game

Take your baby under your arms and play while sitting.

Make happy faces every time you put it in this position. Then stop, get it ready and put it down again. Go back to sitting and do the same happy expressions and phrases. The child will understand that it is a game and will adapt more easily to new positions.

Let the child make the effort

Put your baby on his back, make a farting sound with his mouth or clap his hands so that he is excited and gives you all his attention. Then take your child’s small hands, but let go while saying encouraging words. The child will be excited and want to hold on to you.

When you can see that it has a firm grip on you , try to lift it a little at a time, as long as it strives to get up. Your child does not need to reach a sitting position. As long as it works, it’s more than enough.

4. Lay down and put the baby up several times in a row

Put your baby on his back. Then raise it with your hands until it reaches a sitting position. Hold it there for a few seconds and then put it down again.

Do it ten times in a row while singing or counting “One, two. One two”. One when sitting and two when lying down.

5. Place the baby and hold it

Place your baby on a hard surface and push his arms forward so that the baby’s hands rest against the floor. Hold it at the hips and let it sit for a few seconds.

The exercise should be done according to those we have already listed above. At that time , your baby should feel comfortable and understand the sitting position. It is the last step in teaching your baby to sit.

While the child is learning, it is very important to make sure that he feels comfortable and remains interested. Teach your child to sit, but if you see it crying or being uncomfortable, do not force it.

Leave the exercise for another time and play with the child’s favorite toys instead. All stages of motor development must be achieved step by step and with the child’s “consent”.
