We have all heard and read many classic traditional children’s and folk tales. For example, Little Red Riding Hood, Hans and Greta and Sleeping Beauty . Many of the most beloved tales were written down by the Brothers Grimm, and today we therefore call them the Brothers Grimm’s tales.

All of these stories have stood up well and generation after generation has passed them on to their children and grandchildren. But it is also true that these stories have evolved in the same way that our lives have evolved over time.

For many years, Disney has taken on the task of retelling many classic children’s stories in cinemas by animating them. Despite our familiarity with these fairy tales, we are often unaware of who originally created them or what literary collection they belong to.

In the passages below, we tell you more about the most famous of the tales of the Brothers Grimm. These were two brothers who collected a variety of folk tales that countless children have loved through the ages.

The creation of the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales

Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm Grimm were born in 1785 and 1786, respectively. More than two hundred years have passed since then, but their collection of classic children’s stories continues to fascinate and entertain children even today.

The Brothers Grimm’s tales are often among the first stories children hear when they are young. In addition, they are some of the most famous in history. In the past, it was common for parents to pass these stories on to their children orally because very few people had access to books and writings.

Most of the Brothers Grimm’s tales are available today in more than a hundred different languages. And of course, we must not forget to mention the infinite number of movies based on these fairy tales created by Disney and other filmmakers.

But something about these stories has definitely changed over time. In fact, the Grimm brothers used a lot of violence and cruelty in their original collection. And many times the content was actually quite inappropriate for younger readers.

Over time, and after much insistence, they therefore gave in and created versions that were more child-friendly. Below we mention only some of the most famous.

The most famous of the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales

Askungen

The most famous shoes in the whole world… The dreaded bells that strike at midnight… The most magical godmother of all time… An evil stepmother and her two horrible daughters… And of course our favorite princess, Cinderella. These are just some of the elements that together make up one of the Brothers Grimm’s most famous tales.

Little red riding hood

Another classic children’s story by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm is about a little girl who stands out because of her red hat. It is a story with a very important moral: it teaches young children that they should never trust strangers.

Hansel and Gretel

The next story on our list is about Hans and Greta, a story that gives us a glimpse of the violence and cruelty we mentioned above. In this case, the story is about a witch who lures a brother and sister to her home and then locks them in a cage for the purpose of eating them.

Snow White , another of the most famous of the Brothers Grimm’s tales

Snow White is one of the German folk tales that has had the greatest impact on a global level. Countless adaptations have been made to the story. But common to all are the main characters: a beautiful young girl and 7 hard-working dwarves. The stepmother’s rudeness and cruelty are also something we find in all interpretations.

Sleeping Beauty or the  Princess in the sleeping forest

This classic children’s story is one that has appeared in the most varied versions during the course of history. But the version that most of us know today is the one that Charles Perrault, another great creator of children’s literature, edited and wrote down.

But this version of Sleeping Beauty , which we all know and love, still contains many of the original elements from the saga that Grimm chose to retell. Therefore, we can also consider Sleeping Beauty as one of their fairy tales.

A rich fairy tale treasure
